I’ve known Katelyn approximately since she came home from the hospital when she was born. Our moms have been best friends since they were in middle school, and our families were always just really close growing up. So needless to say, I was incredibly excited when she asked me to photograph her and fiance John’s engagement portraits! These two drove up from North Carolina just for the shoot and endured some pretty wretched humidity. We were joking that they were truly stuck together now, not because of their upcoming marriage, but because they were literally stuck together from sweaty snuggling. That’s August in Richmond for you! John couldn’t be a sweeter companion for Kate. He’s a very active kayaker and has been slowly enticing Kate into the water, so I knew I wanted to incorporate the riverfront into their photos a little bit. And in fact, when Katelyn and I sneaked off after their engagements for bridal portraits (WHICH I CANNOT WAIT TO BE ABLE TO SHARE!!!!!), he used that time to jump in the James and cool off for a bit himself. I’m so in love with the lush greens from Belle Isle in the summer and especially love the final photos we captured around the old quarry. Congratulations Katelyn and John, it was such a joy to be able to share this with you!
